Working with Designs on Towels

Towels, robes and other thick fabrics can be difficult to secure in a frame. Hooping a stabiliser then floating an item over the top before securing it in place with easily removable basting stitches is an invaluable workaround to regular hooping.

Hoop a piece of watersoluble mesh-style stabiliser. Lay towel on top of the stabliser in position, using clips to secure if needed. To prevent your design from sinking into the pile of the fabric and getting lost, lay a clear film watersoluble stabiliser on top of the towel.

Now, secure towel and top stabiliser to the hooped stabiliser with basting stitches.

Market insight

Towels vary greatly in quality and price, consider your pricepoints. Also where customers supply the towel, you miss the profit from the towel sale, so price accordingly.

Tip

Use a larger hoop than design requires. You’ll need room for basting stitches and working space to hold the towel in position.

Shortcut

The basting stitch function is built into the machine. Basting stitches are also useful for checking the position of your design.
