Message from Our Managing Director

Brother Group started our business by providing repair services for sewing machines more than 100 years ago and has maintained a strong desire to create durable products by always putting customers first.

In our Global Vision (At your side 2030), we follow these founding principles and state the following:

By being “At your side,” we enable people's productivity and creativity, contribute to society, and help protect the earth.

As the sales office of the Brother Group in Australia, Brother International (Aust) Pty Ltd ensures that all our activities align with this global vision.

At Brother, we’re committed to providing our customers with products and services of superior value that they can trust. We’re continually exploring innovative ways to recycle our products and ensure our recycling program continues to grow and improve.

We have developed various programs and partnerships to raise awareness of CSR within the company, and we’ve formulated strategies and initiatives that involve everyone - so that all team members can contribute to society and to the environment in which we live, work, and play.

I believe our activities should not only meet the needs of today’s customers but also support future generations.

We provide our employees with an environment where they can fulfil their aspirations and enjoy a well-balanced work life. In doing so, we can be confident that they, in turn, will take care of our customers and the environment.

We recognise that CSR is a journey - and to us, it’s the fulfilment of our ‘At your side’ mantra. We’re proud to undertake this journey because we know we’re building an organisation that our stakeholders respect and our employees can be proud to be part of.

Living Our Values

Our team believes CSR is a shared responsibility, embedded in everyday business operations. These values were set out in the Brother Group Global Charter, based on the Japanese concept of Tomoiki - living and working together for the common good. Through our CSR programs, we hope to establish a mutually beneficial relationship in which our stakeholders trust and respect us and our employees take pride in working for the company.

Professional Development

Brother’s Global Charter, Capability Framework and Values provide a foundation for and guide employee decisions and actions.

Employees are supported by their Manager & the People and Culture Team to develop skills and capabilities, which will help set them up for success in their current roles and throughout their career.

Our People & Culture

The Brother Group Global Charter recognises that our employees are important stakeholders in our business. At Brother Australia, we believe a healthy workforce means presence of positive feelings in our team in which they can be positive members of society, continually learn and improve, strive to achieve their goals and contribute to our success.

Wellbeing and Flexible Work

We strive to provide a workplace where our employees feel valued, respected and empowered. With a hybrid working setup, our teams collaborate seamlessly across Australia, bringing together diverse perspectives and skills every day. We support flexible working, promote work-life balance and are committed to creating an environment where our people can thrive both personally and professionally, no matter where they are based.  We commit to provide a workplace where our employees work positively, pleasantly and purposefully embodying our ‘at your side’ approach to all areas of work and life.

Diversity and Inclusion

A healthy workforce is one where people bring their whole selves to work. At Brother, we strive to ensure our workplace reflects the diverse communities we serve and to cultivate a supportive workplace for all. Only by valuing and respecting every individual can we meet the diverse needs of our employees and customers and embody 'At Your Side'.

As part of our commitment, we hold monthly Diversity & Inclusion discussions throughout the year. These sessions are most meaningful when we hear from a wide range of voices and experiences. Everyone brings something unique to the table, and the more diverse our discussions, the richer our understanding becomes. We encourage all team members to come along and be part of these important conversations.

Team Stories

“Being part of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) conversations has been encouraging. Initially, I thought I was just going to be listening. However, after hearing different ideas, opinions, experiences from others, I realised the importance of actively participating , sharing experiences and learning.

I value the respect, honesty, and spontaneity of the conversations; as well as how everyone participates boldly. Recently, I have volunteered presenting the “Age Diversity” topic, an eye-opening experience full of learnings. I encourage everyone in BIA to check the D&I calendar for the year and participate in any of the conversations; I can guarantee everyone will learn something new.”

"Starting at Brother in 2005, I have had the privilege to work over the years with a wonderful team of people - Brother truly embodies “At your Side”. In my administration role, I have worked across various departments, where I became deeply embedded in the dynamic work culture at Brother. Our company truly prioritises wellbeing and inclusion, creating a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to thrive. I have found the D&I discussions to be incredibly valuable in creating awareness and fostering an inclusive culture. I also really appreciate the flexible work arrangement at Brother as it empowers individuals to balance their professional responsibilities with personal needs which can boost overall well-being and productivity."

Sustainability

Brother Australia’s approach to sustainability aligns with the Brother Group’s 2050 Environmental Vision, aiming for carbon neutrality, reduced emissions, sustainable resource use, and ecosystem conservation beyond the impact of our operations. As a wholly owned subsidiary, Brother Australia sources products from global manufacturing sites, while locally focusing on supporting a circular economy and lowering carbon emissions throughout the product life cycle.

Our circular economy initiatives include:

Printer Cartridges Recycling

Brother has been a full funding member of the Cartridges 4 Planet Ark (C4PA) recycling program since 2003. This national initiative collects and recycles used cartridges - including a wide range of Brother consumables - to help keep them out of landfill. All items are processed by Close the Loop using a certified zero waste-to-landfill method, with recovered materials reused in products like e-wood and TonerPlas®, a sustainable asphalt additive made from recycled toner powder and soft plastics.

Refurbished Products

Brother’s certified refurbished products offer the same reliable performance and value as our standard range. Choosing refurbished helps extend the life of existing materials and reduce unnecessary waste, offering a practical alternative to buying new - without compromising on quality or functionality.

Brother EPS-free packaging

Packaging Innovation

Brother's moulded pulp packaging, first introduced in Australia, significantly reduces the use of expanded polystyrene (EPS), effectively eliminating the equivalent of approximately two Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of EPS in Australia every year (calculated based on sales results for fiscal year 2021 in the Printing & Solutions Business Division, and the pool volume for the 2024 Paris Olympics). The compact and lightweight design maintains cushioning performance while lowering CO₂ emissions during production and transportation. This recognition underscores Brother Australia's commitment to sustainability and innovation in packaging solutions. This approach has also earned Brother Australia the Sustainable Packaging Guidelines Implementation Award in 2023 and the WorldStar Award 2025.

Team Stories

"Thank you, Brother, for the incredible opportunity to participate in OzHarvest activity! What an incredible and valuable service to the community. Not only did we create a chef-quality meal for those in need, but I also learned amazing new cooking techniques. I discovered how to use vegetable scraps for stock, learned how to dice an onion without crying and ensured that nothing went to waste. Now, I proudly apply these skills at home!"

"At Brother International Australia, supporting our community isn’t just an initiative—it’s part of who we are. Whether it’s supporting the amazing creation of superhero medical garments with SuperTee to brighten the lives of children in hospital or cooking up a storm with OzHarvest to raise funds and awareness for those in need, Brother is proud to stand behind causes that truly matter. We’re encouraged to step up, get involved, and make a difference—not only as employees but as people. It’s incredibly rewarding to work for a company that leads with heart and empowers us to give back in meaningful ways. I’m proud to wear the Brother name both in the office and out in the community."

"What started as a once-off packing activity at our company wide conference quickly became one of the most meaningful CSR experiences I’ve been part of. Packing Supertees for children in hospital was incredibly rewarding, but personally delivering them to doctors and nurses across Australia made the impact feel very real. Since then, our partnership has grown, from corporate donations helping sick children and their families, to our team using their day to day skills to design supporter merchandise, offering expertise many charities don’t typically have access to. It’s been a great example of how we can contribute in tangible ways that go far beyond the financial and create real, lasting impact."

Looking Ahead

CSR Roadmap

CSR is a journey, not a destination. As we look ahead, our focus is on embedding sustainability deeper into our operations and continuing support for our social impact programs over the next 1–3 years. Some of the areas we’re focusing on include exploring circularity practices with our global team, putting our carbon mitigation plan into action and making it easier for customers to choose sustainable options.

As a global team, Brother remains committed to fostering trust-based relationships with all stakeholders for the future. We will continue to uphold our “Principles of Social Responsibility” to publicly demonstrate how we meet our social and ethical responsibilities.

Employee & Partner Involvement

We invite feedback and participation - from volunteer days to donation matching - to build a CSR program that belongs to everyone. As part of our cultural focus on innovation and customer-centricity, we’re also investing in innovation training, recognition programs and pilot frameworks that empower employees to bring meaningful ideas to life. Together, we’re building a workplace that drives impact from the inside out.
