A little while ago, my good friends over at Brother asked if I wanted to check out their DS-940DW Mobile Scanner. I was happy to take a look at it and I must say, I am impressed by what this little guy can do.

Big thanks to Brother for sending this out for review!

What’s in the Box?

What do you get in the box? You get the DS-940DW Scanner itself, a USB cable and some documentation. That’s it! Nothing too complicated.

Design and Features

Moving on to the design critique. The first thing I want to note is how compact this is for a duplex scanner. It really does fit in the palm of your hand!

Going around the scanner you will find the main controls on the right hand side of the unit. This is where you will find the main power button, start/stop button, single or double sided selector and colour/mono selector. All of the settings are nicely displayed on a little screen with LED indicator lights to let you know which setting you are on and the battery status.

Moving around to the side of the scanner is where the storage selector and WPS button is. These allow you to change between SD Card, USB connected to PC and WiFi. And the WPS button allows you to directly connect to your WiFi without any confusing configuration.

Now going round the back is where you will find the Micro SD Card slot for the Brother DS-940DW. Do note that an SD card is not included in the box but you can find them pretty cheap both online and in store.

And finally, you have the feed area where you feed in the paper, card or whatever you want to be scanned. I really like the handy slider with icons to give you some guidance depending on this size of thing that you are scanning.

One of the coolest parts of the scanner is the little paper stop that can be flipped up which sends the scanned paper back over the top of the scanner. This is awesome to help keep to that compact feel by having the scanner completely against a wall with no issues whatsoever.
