Gadget Guy review: Brother VC-500W label printer – look mum, no ink

While the Brother VC-500W label printer uses Zink zRoll (it increases the label prices a little), it means Brother can make a smaller unit capable of printing from 9-50mm wide – and no mess or fuss with ink or fading with thermal prints.
What is Zink?
Zink is becoming increasingly popular as print-on-the spot cameras (similar to Polaroids) and pocket printers. In fact, Zink technology started as a project inside Polaroid Corporation in the 1990s, which spun out Zink as a fully independent company in 2005.The paper has several layers: a backing layer with optional pressure-sensitive adhesive, heat-sensitive layers with cyan, magenta and yellow dyes (colourless until heated) and overcoat.
Brother VC-500W Label Printer
It is a Wi-Fi/USB connected, Zink printer that can produce full CYM prints on zRoll stock from 9mm to 50mm wide and up to 5 metres long (it has an auto or manual cutter).
The labels are water, tear and smudge resistant and have an adhesive backing for most surfaces.
